The perils of enterprise travel

…and my waist line

As anyone who spends a lot of time travelling around the country knows, staying in hotels and eating out has its downside. Specifically, it can play havoc with your waistline. And if you like food (good food, that is), it’s hard to resist the temptations of cooked breakfasts, three course dinners – and perhaps a nice bit of cake with your morning or afternoon coffee?
So on a recent return home to reintroduce myself to the family (dogs included), my wife suggested I take an electric food steamer on the road with me, the idea being that I could pick up some fish and prepared veg at the local M&S of whatever town I happened to be in and cook myself a healthy meal in my hotel room.
My journalist colleague, Deedee Cuddihy who sometimes accompanies me on these trips, was aghast. “Apart from anything else” she said “how do you clean the steamer?” To which I replied that I simply put it under the hotel shower and dried it with a towel.
Anyway, it’s working out very well (hotel staff haven’t complained – yet) and even though I don’t use the steamer every night I’m away, it’s good to have that option.
So If you run your own business and travel, how do you stop pigging out?
