Welcome to Iain Scott’s Enterprise Cafe

Over twenty years ago I set up my first business. I found the process challenging, exciting, scary and lonely.

I journeyed from university student to teacher to entrepreneur. My biggest personal challenge was overcoming obstacles set by other people. Friends said, “Oh you are brave…. You’ll need to do a business plan…” or simply held their breath and looked at me.

It was at this point that I knew I would create my enterprise cafe – a place where entrepreneurs could get information and inspiration.  But before that back to 1983….read more

People sucked in their teeth, or tutted, or were very supportive. I ploughed ahead and five years later was supplying Harrods and select supermarkets with high quality cakes and meals, employing over twenty people, raising venture finance, moving factory – and was miserable. Why? Well I was now an entrepreneur and always looking at business ideas, and I knew I was in the wrong business. So I ended up at back at university, working to help other would be entrepreneurs. Naturally I left to start another company, Enterprise Island, which for the last fifteen years has been researching, designing and delivering enterprise-learning programmes.

I found the combination of building a manufacturing business from scratch and working with other entrepreneurs invaluable and probably unique. Then the old teacher in me came out and I started looking at how people learn to be enterprising. To be precise I started developing new ways to develop entrepreneurs and enterprising schools, businesses and organisations.

We now offer the most unusual, exciting and inspiring courses, books and materials to help you to unlock your enterprise potential. We have a fabulous base in Cornwall but still travel the length and breadth of the UK spreading the enterprise message.

What really excites me is the potential of the web to link up with more people in new ways. We started our first attempt at The Enterprise Cafe before broadband – can you imagine how slow it was?

So this is a bit of a long way of saying we have been around for a long time helping people unlock their enterprise potential, and now with the Enterprise Cafe we can offer enterprising sould food as well.

So why not sign up follow us or find out more about our great programmes?

I look forward to seeing you  online or at some of our great events and courses.
