Who is Iain Scott?
Iain Scott – An Entrepreneur Analyst and Anarchist
Iain Scott is the mind and drive behind the Enterprise Cafe and the Enterprise Island development team. His experience, ideas and methodology are the result of his 15 years as an analyst of enterprise and 20 years as an entrepreneur.
Originally a student of history, Iain’s first start-up took him from teacher to entrepreneur. For 5 years he grew a business selling high quality cakes and food, supplying a select list of supermarkets including Harrods. Iain overcame many obstacles in his first venture and achieved a degree of success that those starting up in business hope to reach. He then lost that particular t-shirt and went on to get another one.
For Iain the focus changed, he discovered that his love of success in business is bound to the enthusiasm of a new idea, the process through which that idea develops and the challenge of overcoming all obstacles to produce a working business. Iain returned to University and
started working, for the first time, with other entrepreneurs. He was later a pioneer of Scotland’s early research on the creation of enterprise; he has since committed himself to the discovery and development of entrepreneurs through his Enterprise Island team.
Iain has been through it all before, and he has collected about himself a team with a wealth of experience in enterprise. He is a successful analyst of enterprise and is expert in starting-up small businesses and growing them on. Importantly a central aspect of Iain’s role is his position of inspirational speaker, through which he develops his famed ‘anarchist’ qualities.
Iain’s background and experience are all about the ‘analyst’, but his methodology and delivery are all about pushing the thought process outside the box. Iain is not another ‘dragon’, judging ideas on what he thinks will produce great financial benefit. Iain teaches entrepreneurs to look at their own ideas a thousand different ways and then build their business around those worth keeping.
Iain Scott’s workshops on enterprise provoke reaction, argument and thought development in a variety of exercises that seem more than a little quirky, but they work. Most importantly, Iain develops ideas through discussion and interaction, which builds the confidence of any budding entrepreneur.
Iain Scott and Enterprise Island develop the confidence of undiscovered entrepreneurs in carefully designed and delivered enterprise-learning workshops. It is this confidence, experience teaches us, that is so vital in starting or growing a business.
